DENNIS ETCHISON 1943 - 2019
With great sadness, we post the passing of our very good friend, Dennis Etchison. Dennis had been fighting the good fight against cancer for some time, but the fight proved too much and he passed peacefully in his sleep in the early Tuesday morning of May 28th. Dennis was a much-loved figure in the local SoCal book scene and was rich in friends. RIP, good sir. We miss you more than we can say.
April 2019- We have had a busy winter-heading-into-spring time, with FOUR new titles released!
ALL OF US ARE DYING AND OTHER STORIES is a mammoth George Clayton Johnson retrospective collection that gathers together virtually every piece of short fiction GCJ produced, including three short pieces that did NOT appear in the Subterranean edition. Our edition is in a large 7 x 10 format and runs upward of 550 pages.
Tracy Carbone’s new book is FINDING ZEN IN REBOUND DOGS, a collection of her Carly G blogs taken from “Rebound Dogs and My New Life”. It chronicles her story (starting in 2011) as a single mom who had thrown in the towel on relationships and love, content to stay spitefully single and unexpectedly finding love along the way. It’s a truly wonderful book, complete with dog doodles by Tracy herself.
We were excited to do a book with Dana Middleton, author of two bestselling YA novels, The Infinity Year of Avalon James and Open If You Dare. Our book is THE YOUNG AMERICAN’S GUIDE TO THE VERY BRITISH WORLD OF HARRY POTTER and It's exactly what the title describes, an ingenious guide that explains much of the sometimes esoteric (to Americans) references in the Harry Potter series. This is the first of two volumes that will cover the original series.
And finally, we are most pleased to publish an all-star tribute to the beloved Bookfellows Bookshop/Mystery and Imagination Bookshop and its proprietors, Malcolm & Christine Bell, WRITERS OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION. 20 selections in all- a collection of fiction and a poem by writers and friends such as William F. Nolan, Joe R. Lansdale, Peter Atkins, Dennis Etchison, and many others. A labor of love by all involved. The store is gone now, but it lives on in the memories of the patrons and the writer's community of SoCal.
We ARE working on LONELY VIGILS, the long-awaited Manly Wade Wellman companion volume to WORSE THINGS WAITING. Its a mammoth undertaking with getting the George Evans illustrations restored just right.
We also have books by Peter Atkins, Gard Goldsmith, Paul Kane and more in the works, including additional illustrated editions of some classics that we LOVE doing.
Stay tuned!
